I have always dreamed about the perfect road trip. One where my best friend and I hit the open road, take in the gorgeous scene and laugh amongst ourselves. You know, something you would only see in a movie. Last weekend I was given the opportunity to live that dream out by Hyundai. Erin, my partner at Simply Real Moms and one of my best friends, flew all the way from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to San Francisco, California to embark on the road trip of our lives.
Hyundai was so generous and lent us their 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe for our road trip down to San Diego. The Elantra couldn’t have been a more perfect car to road trip in. Not only is this car sexy and sporty, but the gas mileage is incredibly impressive. The 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe gets 38 mpg highway.
Our final destination was San Diego, California. A typical drive down from San Francisco to San Diego can be around an 8 hour drive but seeing that Erin had never experienced California we decided to go the scenic route, which in our case took 13 hours. We started at the San Francisco Airport, piled our over-packed luggage into the roomy trunk and hit highway 101-South until we made our way down the coastal Highway 1.
In true road trip fashion we of course stopped at the most unique places we could for a perfect photo opp. This adorable gas station was right off the highway in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
The drive down Highway 1 is one of the longest and curviest roads which was the perfect time to test out the sport-tuned suspension and steering in the Elantra Coupe. Both Erin and I were completely impressed with the responsiveness and control as we made our way down the coast.
